Made in Italy: An Insight into Italian Clothing Design with Canali

Born in 1934, Canali made waves in the Italian fashion market which was echoed on a more international scale. Designing and creating the highest quality garments the brand firmly cemented it’s reputation globally. The brand continues to hold its place in the menswear ‘sphere’.

When you think of a quality, tailored suit you think Italian. Italy is renowned for its export of highly fashionable suits, and Canali are one of the front-runners.

Canali have described Made in Italy not as a label but “the result of a longstanding tradition that interweaves culture and history, style and taste, a quest for excellence and respect for professionalism, quality and reliability”. This ethos is consistently reflected through their garments and their customer satisfaction, you may recognize some of their clientele like actor Michael Douglas and composer Ludovico Einaudi.

The design process has the consumer in mind, the modern-day gentleman has some hurdles to overcome in his daily routine. Creating clothing that is not only sophisticated but also high performance is one of the many ways Canali are setting themselves apart from the competition.

The Impeccabile range has exactly this in mind, wrinkle-free and stain resistant clothing designed especially for the modern day traveller, ensuring you keep your clothing versatility without sacrificing your sharpness.

Looking further afield, the SS19 collection brings together classic pastel colours like light blues, fresh whites and pale pinks with injections of colour from darker greens and deep reds. Many of the pieces in the collection flow with each other meaning the combinations of the Canali pieces are endless. As someone who aspires to aim to a more minimal and conformed wardrobe having this versatility within my wardrobe is something I always look for.

I’ll admit I haven’t looked as far as SS19 in my fashion calendar yet, but I know some of these colours will certainly be making an appearance in my colour choices as we break past the low temperatures of this winter and head into the warmer seasons of Spring/Summer.

Flashback from the future and we find ourselves firmly into AW18. Statement pieces like parkas, wool-silk trousers and double monk strap shoes are bringing elegance and style to what may be the gloomiest time of year. A personal favourite of mine from the AW18 collection is this suede sheepskin jacket which is the perfect accompaniment to a roll-neck sweater – something I plan to wear a lot of this season.

The standout piece from the whole collection has to be the statement Bordeaux parka. The rich red colour is best described by Canali as “both intrinsically elegant and conveniently versatile”. Allowing for a plethora of combinations, the red can easily be paired with trousers and a shirt for a more formal occasion, or simply worn with denim and a sweater should the occasion be a little more casual.

Wearing items of clothing that function well for your lifestyle whilst accentuating your style is a sure-fire way to transmit the message that you are a well-dressed, mature gentleman that has no doubt in his mind that he looks good. This is what Canali does so well.
