It’s Time to Embrace that Healthy Lifestyle

We all have those dreams of finally embracing a healthier, more active lifestyle. But let’s face it, for a lot of people that’s how it’s going to stay. Most of us will spend a lot of time thinking about all the healthy things we should be doing and will then go right back to the way that things were before. Pretty much everyone has at least a few stories of joining a gym or getting some exercise gear, only to use it a maximum of three or four times before giving up on it. Well, that’s not the way things have to be. In order to help you finally commit to your goals, here are some things that you can do to help you embrace a healthy lifestyle once and for all.

Try new activities

One of the most common reasons that a lot of people end up giving up on a healthy, active lifestyle pretty quickly is because they just get bored. Let’s face it, unless you’re a pretty specific kind of person, spending all day at the gym isn’t really that exciting. So why not try something new? Something like cycling is a great option because not only are you able to get around while staying fit but you’ll save yourself a lot of money. Of course, make sure to get insured through somewhere like Velosure. Otherwise, you could end up having to pay a lot more than you ever wanted. My sporting interests have ranged from football to BMX to basketball to weight training. Give everything a go at least once!

Have a clear routine

A mistake that people make far too often is that they let themselves get into far loose of a routine when it comes to being active and healthy. They tell themselves that they’ll work out when they get around to it and then never actually get around to it. If you’ve got a clear routine that you can build your workouts around then you’re going to find it that much harder to put things off and make excuses. Knowing exactly when you’re going to be active means that you’re never going to miss a day because you just forgot about it. I keep an Excel spreadsheet covering exactly what exercises and weights/reps I’ll be doing at the gym. This helps me keep on track and allows for progressive overload to take place.

Don’t do it alone

Of course, if you really want to get into the habit of exercising regularly then one of the very best things that you can do is to work out with someone else. Not only can you motivate and support each other but you’ll make it a whole lot harder to give up. After all, making excuses to yourself is easy, but it’s a whole lot harder to make excuses to someone else! I used to attend the gym with a gym partner who was around the same level as me in regards to training, but due to distance that no longer happens and I now go with my girlfriend. Despite training separately, having someone to motivate you to go on the days you really can’t be bothered is definitely a big help with staying on track!

If you remember only one thing, remember this: there is no secret to suddenly make living a healthy lifestyle easy and simple. The truth is that the only way you’re going to be able to fully commit to it is if you’re willing to put in the time and hard work. Sure, these things are going to be very helpful and will make things a lot easier, but if you’re not willing to commit to your lifestyle, it’s never going to make any difference what you try.
