Most of us get set in the same old routine when it comes to time outside of work. Weekday evenings, we tend to head home, wind down, cook some food, maybe a watch a bit of TV and go to bed. This isn’t all too flexible. It’s hard fitting in socialising and fun activities on a regular basis when you know you’ve got to get your head down for the next day ahead. But when it comes to weekends, why do the same old same old when you can mix things up and experience new, fun activities each time Saturday and Sunday roll around? Rather than heading down the pub for a pint with your pals, why not consider some of these different activities?
You don’t have to wait for major bands to come around to go to a gig. If you and your friends are into your music, there are always some sort of local gigs on. Sure, the bands might not be your favourite or the best thing you’ve ever heard. But it’s a great way to immerse yourself in local gig culture and, who knows, you might see a gem before they hit the big time.
If you’re looking for something a bit more active, why not go paintballing? Here you can armour up and spend a few hours running about with your friends – ducking, dodging and diving from paintball pellets and having a laugh when you manage to get someone on the other side. There are all sorts of extras at paintball ranges now to make things a bit more exciting, like smoke grenades. This adds a touch of drama to the experience.
Got a full weekend free? Why not head away somewhere and go camping. Many of us don’t touch a tent year-round, only pulling our one man pop ups out of the cupboard for a music festival. But camping can be great fun, especially if you find a beautiful place to set up. Make sure you take along all the essentials and try to opt for a weekend with good weather. You’ll have hours to catch up around the campfire. Just be sure to put it out safely and properly once you’re done!
The cinema is pretty underrated nowadays. But there are so many good films on. Why not head to a smaller, independent place. This way, you’ll be able to support a local business at the same time as fitting in the latest box office or independent hit. Popcorn, drinks and kicking back and relaxing. What could be better?
These are just a few ideas to get the ball rolling in the right direction. But the main point is that you can do so much more than hitting a bar or club on the weekend. Sure, this is fun every once in a while but it can get a bit dull the tenth weekend in a row. So, mix things up a bit and do something fun!
