Last Friday I was invited down for a two-course meal at Albert’s Schloss here in Manchester. I’d only heard good things about this place so I had to come down and find out what they had to offer. Maren came along with me because I’m not about meals for one.
Upon entry you are immediately greeted by a warm and vibrant atmosphere. The place was very busy but this only added to the atmosphere and gave certain reassurance that this was ‘the place to be’. The décor is very Bavarian inspired, it gave me a little nostalgia kick from my trip to Nurnberg not too long ago. We started the evening by getting some cocktails at the bar. I opted for the Loot lemon sherbet cocktail (which was amazing, it tasted just like a lemon sherbet) and Maren got the Alpine rose mojito. A perfect start to the night.
After being shown to our table we ordered food, the waitress that served us talked us through the new menu items and gave us some recommendations. We took her advice and I tried the ham and cheese croquettes to start (again, unreal.) and the slow-cooked goulash for main. Maren went for the soup and halloumi schnitzel burger.
For the cold weather outside, the goulash was the perfect hearty yet well-presented meal I needed. The slow-cooked short rib of beef fell off the bone and went perfectly with the pancetta, whipped mash and vegetables.
Once the starters and mains were firmly polished off, wanting to watch our calories, we decided to share a dessert. Opting for a favourite of ours, sticky toffee pudding – which was one of the best I’ve tried.
Despite the restaurant/bar being very busy we didn’t have to wait too long for our food to be ready. The staff were very friendly and accommodating, making sure we had everything we needed.
The food was superb, the cocktails were different to others I’ve had in the past and the atmosphere was definitely worth experiencing. I’d like to think I’ll be back, maybe for more food, we wanted to try the ‘Cronuts’ but they had sold out (which is always a good sign of how good they must be!). But I’d also like to try the place out for a few drinks, the atmosphere is perfect for starting your night, mid-way through the night or even just staying there for the duration of your night. There was a live band playing as we ate and that only added to the warm environment.
I’d certainly recommend a visit to Albert’s Schloss if you’re in Manchester, they are located on 27 Peter Street, Manchester, M2 5QR. Be sure to give them a follow on their Instagram page to keep up with all the upcoming events and food posts!
